Hue to Hue //
A Design Archive

An Archive collection explored through shared color.

THE CHALLENGE
Asking ten designers to define "good design" gets you ten completely different answers shaped by personal bias, experience, and taste. The goal was to build a comprehensive design archive that explores this subjective question while figuring out how to build an expansive system that linked these designs together.

RESEARCH & DESIGN
Research meant scouring international archives to collect a diverse mix of works, then analyzing and distilling each piece down to its core color palette. The real puzzle was building an editorial grid flexible enough to handle seventy completely different visual formats while keeping the page-to-page color connections obvious, and the archive wouldn’t be complete without an in depth color chart for each piece of work.

THE CONCEPT & AUDIENCE
"Color as the Common Thread." Rather than organizing by era or movement, Hue to Hue links seventy curated works into a continuous 120-page visual chain: Starting with the first image, one color was pulled from its palette and used to connect to the same color in the next piece. Designed for graphic designers, design historians, and visual thinkers who appreciate playful editorial systems and of course color!

THE TAKEAWAY
Managing a 120-page book taught me that large-scale publishing collapses without a bulletproof workflow, forcing me to build strict master pages, global styles, and dynamic indexing systems in InDesign to make trial-and-error editing smooth rather than chaotic; but the most valuable thing gained was learning that COLOR is what my eye gravitates to first.
